Certified

I finished all the Wilton courses! See my Course 1, Course 2, Course 3, and Fondant & Gumpaste certificates:Our final cake involved learning carnations. I've never been a fan of the actual flower but I loved making the gumpaste versions. I think they're actually quite pretty!
I also did a fondant bead border. Now that I've finished the courses, I'm really excited to start getting down and dirty with cake making. I'm excited to experiment and learn more.

So hopefully, many more amazing cakes are to come! Stay tuned...

Cake, Cake, Cake

Here are some recent cakes I've made!

This was the most recent fondant cake we made in class this week. That's a "trinket box" on the top, made out of fondant. And today I worked on my own birthday cake. It's square...
Yellow cake with chocolate buttercream made from scratch. This was my first time making my own chocolate buttercream. It was a little harder to smooth, but worked out okay.
After doing borders {which typically I'd do last, yes, but this time I didn't. So sue me.}
I used my fun new imprint tools from Wilton.
My writing needs work, but I was okay with how it turned out.

I added an exclamation point later for added excitement. Ooh.
And this, folks, is a cake I made for my family's Father's Day Celebration. Husband dropped one of the layers taking it out of the oven so it collapsed a little, which made the cake unstable, but I got it together okay. It's just lopsided...
This cake is devil's food chocolate with buttercream frosting and a little caramel in the center. Yum! The decorating turned out okay. Taste is what counts, right?

Course 3 Finale - Wedding Cake!

Here is my Course 3 finale cake - a two-tier wedding cake. Pretty frilly, isn't it? The stringwork gave me a lot of trouble. Grr. But over all it turned out pretty well.

At the top are three royal icing hearts leaning against each other to make a cake topper.

My borders are really good, yes?
So there you have it, my first ever tiered cake.

Daisy Cake

Here is the cake we made today in class. We had leeway to do whatever colors, daisy arranging we chose. I really am enjoying fondant more and more. It's a lot of fun to play with.

Marble cake base, streamers, daisies... woohoo.

Fondant & Gumpaste - Cake 1

Tonight was the start of my Fondant & Gumpaste classes. (I played hooky last week for the Course 3 finale after my cakes fell apart and need to do a makeup for that, so two-tier cake is yet to come.) I'm liking fondant more and more...
Today's cake we learned draping techniques, marbleizing...
A fantasy flower. I sorta think it looks like a peony, my favorite!

So there you have it!
