Carousel Cake

It was far from perfect, but here is the carousel cake I made for my daughter's 2nd birthday, which had a carnival theme.

It was 3 tiered, covered with buttercream and marshmallow fondant followed. The horses I piped with color flow a few days in advance, and attached with royal icing. The other details are all fondant or royal icing. To get the pointed dome top, I used one of those giant cupcake shaped cake pans, and baked a little cone shaped cake in the top half, then placed it on top of a regular round cake.

I was pretty pleased with how this cake turned out! And most importantly, all the guests at the party remarked on how good it tasted {I do boxed cake mix & make my own buttercream using Serious Cakes recipe!} The lines weren't all perfect, but this was by far the most complicated cake I've made to date, so I'll go easy on myself.
Thanks for visiting Heather Cakes!

Spongebob!

Behold the Spongebob Squarepants cake I made for my niece's birthday last week!
The characters & ocean creatures I made with color flow, then used Wilton's food markers for the details. I'm really liking working with color flow!
The blue frosting was buttercream, I tinted it using half & half of sky blue & teal. Shortly before serving, I attached the color flow pieces to skewers with royal icing, then covered the skewers with top #68 in green to create seaweed. I wish I'd positioned the creatures higher, but oh well. I was very happy with how it turned out!
Happy Birthday, Indy!!

Star Wars Cake

This is the cake I made for Mara Jade's 1st birthday! Mara Jade is a character from Star Wars that her parents named her after so it was fitting for the birthday to be Star Wars themed.

My dilemma - mixing girly/baby/1st birthday with STAR WARS. But I think it turned out pretty well, for my 2nd ever tiered fondant cake. ;-)
